France-based pea Alex (of speak-pipe fame!) is mum to 27-year old Max, who has Down Syndrome. Alex shares a lifetime of insights, touching on the rectum-filled moments surrounding Max’s diagnosis, her positive experiences of his early childhood care, her less-positive school experiences, the joy that Max brings and the importance of fostering his unique talents and interests.

She also shares about Max’s teen years and the challenges of responding to his emerging sexuality. Alex also discusses her approach to his post-school out-of-home living options, and her overall goal of finding a place in the community that best suited Max’s needs.

A big part of Max’s world is Sprung!! – Integrated Dance Theatre where his natural talent for dance has been nurtured. Max is connected and supported so well in his community that Alex has been able to take the opportunity to leave Australia to live in France for a period of time. Tune in to hear Alex’s calm and experienced voice offer all of her wisdom, kindness and advice to the Pea tribe.
